Last September we made a pillow and sold it on eBay. The winner was Kelly- she won but didnt want the pillow, she asked that we donate it to Lexy, a 4 yr old little girl -who is local to me- who is living with Alexanders disease, a leukodystrophy. Alexanders disease is a very rare genetic disease affecting the protective covering of the nerve endings of the brain. It is progressive and terminal. She is 1 of 50 children living with this disease in the entire world. Lexy is getting bigger and heavier, and lifting her in and out of their van is difficult. The family has been working with an agency who has agreed to pay to have their van modified with a ramp, lowering of the floors and installing tie-downs for her chair...but their van has been deemed too old, with too many miles. Lexy needs a new van. This can be any style van, as long as it has under 40k miles on it- that is the criteria for the agency to help with the costs of conversion. The day we met Lexy really left an impact on me. The sweetness in her smile, they love of her parents, the joy in receiving the pillow. This kid is awesome.
