Last Thursday the #Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC conducted a research briefing in Hobart for Tasmania’s emergency services. TFS personnel were joined by Parks and Wildlife Service, the SES, Forestry Tasmania, Tasmania Police and the Dept. of Premier and Cabinet. Participants gained insights into the range of research currently under way by the BNHCRC, learning how the science can help Tasmanian emergency services and the government protect our communities from a range of hazards. Topics covered included: how communities and emergency managers make decisions under threat; sharing responsibility for emergency management; extreme weather; building at the rural/urban interface; hazard fatalities; bushfire mapping; and the legal and political implications of emergency management. A very informative day! Photos are Dr Richard Thornton BNHCRC CEO being interviewed, Justin Leonard from CSIRO - on stage, and TFS Chief Officer Mike Brown in front on cameras
