Last Tuesday, Lisa and I were honored to participate in Military Appreciation Day events at The Ridgewood Country Club as the Barclays, the PGA TOUR and Birdies for the Brave partnered to recognize our service members and families for the tremendous selfless service and dedication to the nation. Norah ODonnell, of CBS This Morning, hosted Operation Shower, which consisted of 40 of our military moms-to-be. They were pampered with shower gifts and lunch for a special day of fun and relaxation. Birdies for the Brave hosts Operation Shower” at all of the TPC golf courses around the country. In 2006, PGA TOUR Champion Phil Mickelson, and his wife, Amy, founded Birdies for the Brave. It was their way of giving back to the men and women who volunteer to preserve America’s freedom. They, along with many members of the PGA TOUR, continue to support our Armed Forces and its families through organizations such as Birdies for the Brave. For their compassion to our military, Lisa and I presented the Mickelsons with a unique set of military dog tags as a way to patriotically symbolize and recognize their commitment to service. We also recognized groups of service members who have recently redeployed from overseas and are preparing to depart. Another highlight was the opportunity to conduct a ceremonial Oath of Enlistment for 20 applicants from New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. These young men and women will soon ship off to their basic training and have volunteered to join the best profession in the world -- America’s Armed Forces.
