Last evening I made a special dinner for my brother-in-law and my nephew. Id planned it for a couple of weeks. I made a special roast beef dinner. I had paid more for the beef that Id ever spent before. I followed what sounded to be a super recipe: 1 can of mushroom pieces and the juice, 1 can of mushroom soup, 1 packet of Liptons onion soup mix. Mix together, pour over the meat, and then slow cook in crock pot for 8 to10 hours. I served potatoes and carrots. I made the mushroom gravy. We all sat down to dinner with my very best dishes. My nephew was repeatedly interrupted by cell phone calls from work that he felt he couldnt ignore. After about the sixth such call, I restrained myself from grabbing his darned phone to tell the caller, Hes at a formal dinner right now at my home. Please reserve work-related talk until hes back on the clock. Dont interrupt us again this evening. But I didnt. The evening went well, though. Then around 5:30 a.m., I felt very sick. Finally at around 6 a.m., I tossed my cookies. I felt diaphoretic and very weak, wasnt certain I could make it back to bed. But I did. I shivered and shook. Finally I was able to rest for a couple of hours from noon until 2:30 today. I got up at 3:00 to feed the dog and cats. I assumed that perhaps my pain medicines hadnt combined well with the gravy. One hates, truly hates, to cause ones guests any stomach distress. I phoned them. My brother in law reported that hed had two helpings of gravy, and that he felt fine today. My nephew was not so great. Hed been sick this week, a reaction to having been administered three vaccines on Monday. He also does have a sensitive stomach. Apparently he looked much better last evening than he felt. I feel like the worst cook ever right now.
