Last evening attended Salt Lake Music Festival, Kolkata. The first - TopicsExpress

Last evening attended Salt Lake Music Festival, Kolkata. The first event was Sitar by my friend Sri Subhranil Sarkar. Subhranil Sarkar is regarded as one of the most promising Sitar-players of the younger generation. He belongs to Sitar’s first family, the Etawah Gharana (also known as the Imdadkhani Gharana). He was initiated into music at the age of 6 by Sri Bimal Chatterjee of Etawah Gharana. In 2000, Subhranil was accepted as a disciple by the great Sitar maestro Padma-Shri Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan and with this began a new chapter in Subhranil’s musical life. Within a few years he has established himself as one of the foremost disciples of Ustadji and one of the torchbearers of his Gharana. He played Raag Bageshri Alap, Jor, Jhala and Gat. His Alap was very nice. Due to shortage of time, he had to cut short his programme. In his each stroke I was remembering Ustad Shahid Parvez ji. In Tabla was arkendu mitra. Arkendu has accompanied nicely. A very beautiful presentation. A short clip of Subhranil. https://youtube/watch?v=x04H_QUihRc
