Last evening my wife alerted me to the following video shed just stumbled across. Immediately, I was returned to June 1974, remembering our family as brand new residents of San Diego, California. Our rented home was situated on Claremont Mesa overlooking the Citys spectacular Mission Bay. While the community was quite the ideal place to reside aesthetically, its marketplace appeared exponentially deficient in ethnic commodity. That fact was readily apparent in the notable absence of both Jet and Ebony magazines. The crowning disturbance; there was not a single Black hair-care item available. Anxiously we rushed to the Black side of town, in immediate search of those elusive hair care items. Soon spotting a barbershop, we pulled to the curb and went inside. Explaining the purpose of our visit, the barber directed us to a number of nearby businesses catering the products we sought. Introducing himself saying, Im Willie Morrow, then gifted us a copy of his 1973 book, 400 Hundred Years Without A Comb, The Untold Story a publication which metaphorically chronicled our exact predicament. During the course of our conversation, we were invited to visit his home for a community open-house event scheduled the following weekend. This is indeed a memorable recollection. JBE
