Last night I listened to Joel Oesteen preach and he says the following. Isaiah 61:3 “and bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning.” Life hands us unfair situations, loss of loved ones, broken relationship, divorce etc. these events are like ashes for a time and a while we sit in the ashes, the hurt, the pain, the betrayal but after a while we need to shake off the ashes and exchange it for the beauty God promises in Isaiah. Unless we give the ashes to God he cannot give us what he has in store in return for it. In life if we hold onto the brokenness and hurt we cannot receive what God wants to give us. He said if something is dead in your life don’t die with it by stayed fixed on it, where you are unwilling to walk away is where you will remain stuck! he prayed and said: ‘’Lord I am not going to live my life sour thinking I have wasted months and years of my life, I am sewing this as a seed knowing you will bring me a harvest!’’ God took everything away from Job but restored him and gave him double when Job got up from a place of mourning and gave God the ashes. In Isaiah this is the promise he gave to us if we let go of every unfair situation, person, hurt and pain: Isaiah 61:7 “Instead of your shame you will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace you will rejoice in your inheritance. And so you will inherit a double portion in your land and everlasting joy will be yours.”
