Last night I saw a brief clip of channel 4s The Island featuring Bear Grylls and 13 other people and was genuinely shocked at what I saw. Since when has it been acceptable to kill an animal or in this case a reptile, for entertainment? If these characters had been genuinely marooned on an island and were desperate for food I would accept the need to do such a thing but to do it as an exercise in survival purely for the entertainment of TV viewers is not, cannot, ever be acceptable. So why isnt channel 4 and all the people responsible for this outrage including the well paid Mr Grylls not being prosecuted for causing unnecessary suffering to an animal?
