Last night I was coming back to the Inn from SLO Brew. As I past - TopicsExpress

Last night I was coming back to the Inn from SLO Brew. As I past by the alleyway next to the Inn I heard my name. I turn around to see this homeless man that I know. I said “Hello Charlie whats up?”. He looked at me with tears in his eyes and said “I really need your help John, I need to get off the streets and get medical help”. I could tell that he was very upset. I asked “whats wrong?” he started to cry and said “I really need mental help because I can’t deal with this anymore”. We talked a little more and I realized the only way that I could help him was to call SLOPD dispatch. He got very upset with that idea and began to shake and cry more. I asked him to come sit with me on the benches. As we talked I learned more about Charlie and his life. I guess at a point he knew I was right about calling dispatch. I put in the call and then sat there talking with Charlie for awhile until they arrived. In the meantime I was able to find out that Charlie had a brother in Sacramento. I advised him give him a call and inform him of what was going on. As he was talking to his sister-in-law he told me that she wanted to talk to me. She was so happy that I was there for him and just kept thanking me, I then got to talk to his brother and could hear his sadness in his voice, he and I talked about how God brought Charlie to me to get the help he so needed and deserved. He also thanked me so many times on the phone. The police finally arrived. I told them what was going on. They informed me that he will be taken care of. Before I went inside I asked if I could talk to Charlie one more time. Charlie looked up at me with so many tears in his eyes, as I put my hand on his head I looked at him and said “God is with you and will always be there for you.” Charlie then looked and me and smiled and said “Thank you Mr. John Charles Spears I know he will” After all of what I just experienced I went inside and began to cry. Not just for Charlie but for all of the homeless out there that need help and do not know how ask for it. My prayers are with Charlie today in hopes that he is getting the so needed help he deserves.
