Last night I was driving back into my hometown after taking my grandad home to my familys ranch that Ive worked on since I was child, thinking about all the years Ive spent there and the memories of my childhood. I was listening to the Grand Ole Opry on the radio and Whispering Bill Anderson was introduced on stage. His voice was somber and you could feel the heaviness of his heart. I wondered what was wrong and then he said that Little Jimmy Dickens had died earlier that day. My heart sank. I had been remembering childhood memories while driving that night and that man was a big part of them. Doing work on that ranch, listening to 1430AM on the radio, I remember always singing a Little Jimmy song with my dad. His humor songs always brought a smile to my face. Later on in life I searched out his ballads and no one could tug your heart strings with a ballad like that man. Ive always wanted to go to the Opry and see him, but I never got the chance. So tonight Tater, I raise a whiskey to you. You were little and loud and you will always be a hero to me. I can still picture my dad and I singing this song together with smiles on our faces. Thank you dad and thank you Little Jimmy Dickens for the memories.
