Last night, October 10th, the Edmonton Illusions Social Club met - TopicsExpress

Last night, October 10th, the Edmonton Illusions Social Club met at 7pm at the Pride Centre for our monthly meeting. The clothing exchange continues and was lightly perused, with some chatter on construction idiocy, referral letters for transitioning, home renovations and how some people throw away their money. The official meeting actually started about 7:15, as club president Christy had to be off sooner than usual. In attendance were club secretary Shae, Carol B., Jenn Y., Candace H., Christy, club treasurer Rachel, Carrie Ann, vice-president Cheryl, and Liz, with Jessie showing up later. Members are getting used to the cushy black-leather front-lounge furniture, and much legginess and great shoes were evident. The Pride Centre, another one of those well-used volunteer orgs, is always busy Friday nights, with the back room used for the weekly arts workshop as well as the seniors group. Christy started the business by announcing that Winterfest 2015 is formally a go. February 20-21, Friday night meet&greet at the Room With No Name on 100ave&109st, and Saturdays banquet and show at 6pm at Evolution Wonderlounge. Pricing and other details will be released by next month; hotel accommodations are fluid (theres all downtown to choose from, but the Holiday Inn could give us a deal if we can guarantee enough rooms). An online PayPal option is being investigated, direct cash payments always work, and a regular snail-mail address will be provided. Those interested are asked not to wait too long to join in. Quality local drag performers are having their arms twisted to perform after our banquet at Evo, and Christy mentioned that its always good to spread the word; bring along other trans folk and some trans-supportive friends! Shes hoping to repeat last years successful event with fifty people attending. There will be no conflict with Womonspaces Dyke to Diva event, as its being held Feb 14, thus leaving us two good events on two weekends. A special request from the exec: It would be nice to have a few of us Illusions girls showing up at these other events. We will be helping out as volunteers with the Courts upcoming events such as New Years, and three of us who stepped up to help out at the Coronation found that it was a blessing - yes, we missed some of the formal show, but the voting table we were at was in the middle of traffic, so we got amazing pics, met a whole lot of new friends and had some wonderful chats. Carrie Ann has been keeping the pile of Illusions stuff (bar supplies, banners and sashes), and is willing to pass it along at the appropriate time, and Liz will help chase down the transfer of executive signatories at the credit union. We need to connect with Judy the wig lady in Blackfalds, officially thank her for her past donations to the group, and let her know she doesnt need to continue donating - we still have three of her wigs in the club clothing exchange. Several bits and pieces such as wigs and forms have found their way to other transfolk via the Pride Centre, and its regularly thinned and kept fashionable. Halloween is coming. There are events, but nothing yet posted. Anyone interested in starting something should get online here or on the Yahoo group. Meeting was struck at about 7:50, folks looked over the clothes rack, chatted, and noted that few of our fave locations are quiet enough for conversation. This could well be a topic to be discussed next social. Christy and Jessie seemed to have a good time at Evo, and the other girls paired off to coffeeshops, good ol visiting, or just homeward bound.
