Last night around 2:30am we were on our front porch ohhing and ahhhing like children at a spectacular lightning storm a bit to the Northwest. The power of those positive and negative electrons reaching for each other from the clouds and the Earth, the sound waves created when the very air collapsed as the electrons embraced in flashing light, filled us with awe and wonder. In the midst of my awe and wonder I was cognizant of the fact that this beautiful part of California in which I live is particularly thirsty after a dry winter and spring, and that it will be a long fire season here. Blessings on all the animals (including those of my species) and plants who come into danger living in places that will erupt with flame, blessings on all the plants who need the cycles of fire to reproduce and thrive. May this season of fire be a balance for the species who need it, and those whose lives are disrupted and destroyed because of it. Blessings on all those whose work it is to respond to, and try and manage and control, this particular stunning power of our planet.
