Last night, chatting via text with my middle child, Alexander Caine Blaylock, he casually tossed into the middle of the conversation, also my birthday is tomorrow....This struck me funny because I wasnt sure if he was concerned that his moms advancing age might be affecting her memory to recall her childrens birthdates. I want to take a moment to remind him that HIS advancing age is in direct correlation to mine but I did not in fact forget that 27 years ago today, my middle child made his dramatic entrance into this world. Over the years he has made me laugh, made me cry, and helped me hone my reasoning and negotiating skills to the level of an Ivy League educated lawyer arguing a losing case against a toddler (toddler won every time). He taught me what it means to give and receive unconditional love as I have watched him go against the grain, follow his passions and become a man I am so proud to call my son. He is quick to smile, slow to anger and even slower to admit when he is wrong (I dont know who he gets that from) but he is the first one to show up with his truck, do the heavy lifting and help you move. So, today, if Alex is your grandson, brother, nephew, cousin or if you are fortunate enough to call him a friend, join me in wishing him a Happy Birthday.
