Last night devotional: ”Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the suns go down upon your wrath. Neither give place to the devil. (Eph 4:26-27) KJV. “In many marriages that end up on the rocks of divorce, the root problem is anger that has not been righteously expressed and dispelled. In many families, the division and discord stems from a failure to obey Paul’s instructions concerning anger. In many churches, the unity of the body of Christ has been hindered by the lack of righteous anger. “ My reflections: Let the “sun go down on your anger.” In other words, get angry but get over it and, “do not give the devil a foothold. Some things ought to make us angry in this world but to remain angry is a sin. Some anger is good as we read in Ephesians 4 but James warns that “human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires (James 1:20). James commands us to “Be slow to anger” (1:19). Paul warns us to leave to God all those things that we cannot make right because God will judge all unrighteousness someday. (Ephesians 4:31 and Col. 3:8). Revenge is not the way to have justice served and so we are told, “Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written It is mine to avenge, I will repay, says the Lord” (Rom 12:19). Don’t let the sun go down on your anger for God will avenge and if we trust God’s perfect justice, ultimately no one will ever get away with anything. Today, let’s try to avoid anger. For me not an easy task, but definitely worth the effort. And when we are angry, then we should deal with sin as God has directed us, so that our anger is dispelled and it does not lead us to sin.
