Last night i lost an Aunt and Heaven gained a new angel as my Auntie Ethel Call lost her courageous fight with cancer. As in life she brought together a family in her final moments both in person and via phone from states far away that has been divided since my Grandfather Cray passed. I also learned a very hard lesson....NEVER assume that you given tomorrow to tell someone how much they mean to you or that some of the BEST memories of your childhood are ones that dont just include them but that happened because of them - cause tomorrow is never promised. I couldnt bear to face the sound of a woman who was VIBRANT, BEAUTIFUL, ONE HELL OF A FORCE TO RECKON WITH AND THE EPITOME OF LOVE on the other end of the line sounding frail and near death. I thought I could wait till the night before last to call as long as I was keeping in touch thru family I convinced myself I had the time to cope with the reality of knowing remission wasnt happening this time. Well I called just a few hours after she slipped into what would be her last slumber. She never woke up and just after 9:30 I stopped mid down the stairs and felt a warmth from my feet to my head followed by intense pain and odder still relief and peace. I got my dads text an hour later. Shes gone i love you Punk, it read. I know she was letting me know in that briefest of moments on my steps that she knew that I was with her and I hope she knew that after years of seperation she brought a family apart find their way back together again. Now Cray Clan that be sure we dont go another 12 years divided. I love you Aunt Ethel Cray Call - and all my Cray Clan. See you all in a few days.
