Last night in Bible Study we studied the life of Jacob. The teaching was entitled, I Might Be Down But Im Not Out: Jacobs Story. What I love about the word is that it finds you wherever you are. We covered SO MANY profound points in his life that corresponds with our own and we reached the conclusion that it doesnt matter what we have to endure, we are going to make it. We will see the will of the Lord performed in our lives. God will perfect that which concerns us. He will complete what He began in us and that it is okay to have a moment as long as we dont dwell there. Here are only a few of the points we covered.. Jacob was a man of struggle, in fact before he was born, he struggled in the womb. (What is struggling within us that is destined to be released?) As he was being born, his tenacious nature was developed as he held on to his brothers heel. Something in him knew that he was supposed to be the head, first, and in the lead. (Are you wrestling against your circumstances to be who you God declared you to be are you just content with who you are?) He wanted his fathers blessings so badly that he was willing to do anything for it. He risked being chased, hunted down, ostracized, and even killed just to apprehend the blessing of his father. (What has it cost you to get what belongs to you? What are you willing to do? How important is it to you to have Gods word breathing over you?) Jacob married a beautiful girl but she was barren...The thing that he didnt want was prospering but the thing that he loved wasnt. (Have we made the determination that many times what we want is not necessarily what is needed? Or, are you willing to put in the time and extra effort into that which seems barren regardless to how long it takes in order that it does give birth?) In the end, Jacobs destiny was met and fulfilled. He had seen many dark days, the loss of his parents, loss of a brother, loss of a wife, and loss of trust among his certain of his sons, but he finished his course well. He succeeded in birthing a nation. He may have struggled but he overcame. He spoke into the destiny of his 12 sons and we are experiencing the fruit of his prophetic words to them even in this day. Jesus, the Son of man, came through his loins so what if he would have given up? He also made a claim on the double blessings of God where he loss Joseph for a season and gained 2 more sons through Joseph, Ephraim and Mannaseh. There is double for your trouble and you might be down now but you are not out. There is glory coming after this... what a mighty time in the word.. We were all refreshed..
