Last night my staff and I were about to leave the pharmacy when we were faced with a heart breaking dilemma.. DATE RAPE.. The victims family were instructed by their doctor to come to the pharmacy to collect ARV prophylaxis along with other calming medication. What surprised me though was the fact that the perpetrator had access to the date rape drug which is usually a scheduled medication kept under lock and key in the pharmacy. I was horrified to learn by the victims family that there are pharmacies in down town Jozi that are literally dishing out anything and everything to customers including schedule 6 items. Along the way these meds are sold for a high price on the black market and thats how it lands up in communities. I appeal to the public out there if you come across pharmacies that are selling anything and everything without a valid prescription, please report them to the police and the pharmacy council. Last night a teenager was raped....Her family was devastated..Tomorrow it could be your own daughter. For money and greed people will do anything. The unfortunate part is that the public allows these type of pharmacies to thrive. They fail to see the bigger picture. They fail to understand that dishing out anything and everything over the counter can affect someone elses life..... PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD AND SHARE THIS STATUS WITH ALL YOUR FRIENDS!!
