Last night over a meal for grandson Jonnys birthday, I mentioned - TopicsExpress

Last night over a meal for grandson Jonnys birthday, I mentioned the word Rustic, and he asked what it meant: I told him I always thought it meant: the countryside in Autumn, something old and of the country, pretty and appealing. It seems I never knew the half of it and was mainly wrong; or that my description fell far short of the true meaning. In a very old pocket dictionary it says: Rustic: bucolic; countrified; pastoral; rural; upcountry; artless; homely; homespun; plain; simple; unaffected; unpolished; unrefined; unsophisticated; boor; bumpkin; clod; clodhopper; clown; country boy; country cousin; peasant; swain; yokel. Now theres a thing! It should have added: A Yorkshireman by the name of Lundy! However, at the time of life when I have to admit to being very old (at one time I never even thought about passing reaching 70, never mind passing it) Im certain I have become a bit old fashioned, and yes, Rustic. It seems to place me right in the order of things and I have no wish to be otherwise. My late wife Joan always said that loving old songs, places and things, I was living in a timewark. She was right of course, in so many things, although she herself had a bit of rusticism in her which made her the nicer for it, for me at least, although I could never have told her. Merry Cristmas to you all. And cm on! Theres nowt wrong wi being just a bit Rustic and old fashioned at this time of year, it goes with the season and is all the better for it. Love to all! A Rustic Old Plonker, Beeston
