Last night picked up an exam preparation book on law. The chapter on Muhammadan Law was quite an experience. According to that book the Courts and modern thinkers cannot challenge, rethink, or redefine any legal question already settled by the great imams and great people of the past. The word great was greatly emphasized without giving any explanation of what does great mean. Secondly any interpretation or rethinking in the Muhammadan Law ,if any, would only be done by religious people. I as a devout reader of the Quran could not agree with the basics ideas behind Muhammadan Law as explained in that book.
