Last night the Universe spoke to me. I moved within a matter of hours from a very dark place to a place of peace within myself. Frustrated with this oppressive culture I have been feeling the weight of the world these past few days, disillusioned as my friends and fellow activists struggled, and in some cases refused to understand my perspective and the bleak reality as seen by me, of the culture we live in. And then in the wee hours of the morning, just as dawn was about to break over the horizon, the Universe sent me a message, a message of compassion, in the form of a young, expecting mother. I picked her up at a convenient store in Springfield, she was cold, she had been sitting outside her ex boyfriend and father of her unborn childs house for hours as he had locked her out and left her with no place to go. She needed to go to her friends house who occasionally let her stay there. She had only ten dollars to her name, and a story that like so many other women in this world was filled with abuse, and yet she had a light inside that was absolutely inspiring. I accepted the ten dollars and agreed to take her where she needed to go and as her story unfolded I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Universe had sent her to me for a reason. She like so many other women in this world had such resilience, a strength of spirit I could not help but admire. And we, in those early hours of morning connected on a level that I could only liken to the connection I established with my Occupy family. Doing something selfless for a fellow survivor, a sister, brought me back to myself, and after days of questioning what the hell I am doing int his world, my path was illuminated. I am here on this earth to help people, in small ways and in large ways. I am done hiding and all I want to do is make a difference for someone else, if it is one single lonely soul at a time, that will be enough because it will be something.
