Last night we received a call making us aware that a great person, one that I am honored to call friend, died. Tom Couthard, a long time resident of Amenia, lost his battle to remain alive. An English author named Pine once wrote, What we do for ourselves dies with us, what we do for others is and will remain immortal. In this context, Tommy will forever be immortal. I have had the pleasure of working with Tom on numerous projects during our tenure with the Amenia Lions Club. He could always be counted on to complete the job, be fast with a laugh and to help solve the problems of the universe with me over a beverage, or two. On the golf course, over a dining room table covered with felt as we and other dear friends, played our regular poker games, at dinner, or both of us, yelling like fools, at the Jets on TV, or sleeping on a sofa, in my living room after a dinner party. These are but a tiny example of the multitude of memories I have of him. My thoughts, Prayers and deepest condolences go out to his wife Linda and their sons, Sean and Peter. To them, their families, to all that knew Tom, we are all richer for having known him.
