Last nights MLC meeting was full-packed and exciting! Our first topic was sustainability and we had a guest, a graduate student from the University of Amsterdam, Renata, who was interested in what MLC was doing for sustainability of Cebu, particularly regarding urban sprawl, while we listened to her learnings and experiences in other places. Then we moved on to the MLC/USC CAFA Model Community Project where MLC handed over funds for two more homes, a generous donation from our friends from Rose Charities of Canada. The Team from CAFA will start staking out the property this Saturday and we hope to have completed the first home within 10 days at which time MLC will join the USC team in Daanbantayan. Bravo! Finally we discussed the continuing efforts against pork barrel which MLC is working hard along with the Cebu Coalition and seven other groups from Manila. Finally we also congratulate all of our friends, colleagues, and members of other groups who had been working hard to finally get bike lanes in the city! The ordinance was supported by all sectors yesterday! Bravo to Cebu!
