Last nights meeting was an extremely important one for the future - TopicsExpress

Last nights meeting was an extremely important one for the future of Calexico. I have worked very hard to keep this city on a positive path, however, without teamwork, our efforts have fallen on deaf ears many times. Now, we are experiencing a very serious matter. The future of Calexico is at risk. Our Liability Insurance we purchase through the California Joint Powers Authority (JPIA) has given our council an ultimatum. Either we cease the council involvement in personnel matters or they will cancel our insurance coverage with the Authority. JPIA refers to these issues as having been highly political in the past and which has caused public response not in the best interest of the city and not considered good governance. Losing our insurance would be disastrous or even the possibility of an event as facing city bankruptcy is not only disturbing but life changing for all Calexicans. This matter now lies in the hands of our City Manager, Richard Warne, who, bless his heart, has arrived at a moment when the challenge to restore stability is at its most difficult time in history. We have an ongoing investigation in the Calexico Police Department and some shocking issues have been released publicly. Because the responsibility is first the city managers fiduciary duty, he has relieved former Chief of Police from his duties and has replace him with new Interim Police Chief Michael Bostic, well known as a clean up type law enforcement officer. I have met Mr. Bostic and I have been briefed as to the circumstances of his hiring and I believe that the city managers decisions were in the best interests of the citizens. All law enforcement authorities (District Attorney, Sheriff, Border Patrol, USCIS) are supporting this effort by our new chief and they show that they want Calexico to succeed and should be thanked for their interest in seeing Calexico restore the respect and professionalism they deserve. I have decided to post the letter to the Mayor sent by the JPIA yesterday so a better understanding is shared.. I personally have worked to consistently question the circumstances surrounding the JPIA issues, however, the majority of our council does not seem to understand the severity of what we are facing and the results are now before you. I continue to work hard as your voice, as your watchdog, and as your transparent opinion of our operations in city hall because I wont allow our citizens to be without the knowledge of our present fate. This predicament has been a grave concern shared by our Mayor, John Moreno, whose heart is like mine, hurting for the community we all love! Please join me in this campaign to keep Calexico on the right path! Lets continue to ask the hard questions and participate!! We cant represent you without you!
