Last racing show of the year at Spoon River Speedway this Saturday night. Its been a great year at the track, and lets see if we can possibly cover everything you might want to know in this post: Gates open at 4:30 in the pits, and 5pm in the grandstand. Hot laps at 6, qualifying at 6:30, and racing at 7pm. It is a regular night on prices, which means THIS: General Admission $12, Kids 10 and Under Free, Drivers Pit Pass $35, Crew Pit Passes $30, $5 of each Drivers pit pass will be contributed to that divisions point fund. NO Backpacks, NO Overly large Purses, NO Food, NO Glass and NO Openly carried in Drinks allowed. NO animals in grandstand area (that means Shawn Howard is only allowed in the pits, but I digress) Coolers may be carried in maximum 10 Wide X 14 Long X 12 Tall. NO EXCEPTIONS It must fit inside container Box. NO FOOD or GLASS. $5 everytime through the gate. All carried in items are subject to search and refusal Track phone number: (309) 668-2622 Track is located 7 miles SW of Banner IL on Rte. 24. 16736 N.Speedway Road Lewistown, ILL 61520. Also, ALL classes (that means Modifieds, Pro Late Models, Pro Modifieds, Hornets, and Six Shooters, because those are ALL OF OUR CLASSES) will be qualifying and all starting heads up in the features, there will be NO HEATS Saturday night. We will also have 3 (three - as in one more than 2) mechanics races and 1 (one, uno, a single) powder puff race. Doesnt matter what kind of car you drive in the powder puff race, there will be one (uno, single, 1) powder puff race. If we find out theres a male on the track in a race car during the powder puff race (like last year), then the powder puff and mechanics races are going away for good. Lets see, what else. Oh...the track is still an oval, still with a clay surface. The grandstands are aluminum and steel bleachers. There may be some wood involved as well. The track is high-banked in the turns, and semi-banked on the straights. The area inside the track is called the infield. It is not part of the pits, which are located outside the racing surface. The bathrooms have flushing toilets, sinks to wash your hands in, and hopefully no skunks. The concession stand will be open. At the concession stand they sell food and beverages. They charge money for these items, and the prices are clearly stated on the board above the concession window. They give change if you hand them more money that what your order costs. The track is East-West in configuration, and if the sun is out (I know, a rarity this summer), it goes down around 7:15 this time of year, and sets behind turn one. Lets see, what else. Oh, yeah...coats are allowed, but not required. Clothing is optional, but only for some people. You are allowed to cheer for drivers, or boo ones you dont like, not a problem. There is a parking lot. It holds cars, trucks, RVs, vans, motorcycles, bikes, and rickshaws. It is not paved. It is grass. What am I missing, oh yeah, when the races end it will be announced that the night is over and you are allowed to go home. In your car, truck, RV, van, motorcycle, bike, or rickshaw, whatever you choose. There, I think that covers it. See ya Saturday!
