Last week I attended a reception in appreciation of one of our most highly respected employees of the Williamson County school district who is retiring. It seemed like old times chatting with several former school board members and the employees of the school district. I made the rounds through the office building to visit with people who still had work to do before the holidays. I don’t know if the voters and the people who do not have children in the district realize what we have lost in a feeling of harmony among the school board, the teachers, the staff, and the parents. The outside political funding, the poorly defined opposition to Common Core Standards, the controversy over textbook selection, and the board’s introduction of policies conflicting with existing board policy has created an aura of frustration in the district. I will go back to visit the central office frequently. Our employees need to know they have our support.
