Last week I found Trader Joes steak and ale pie. traderjoes/digin/post/steak-and-ale-pies At a whopping 670 cals each it was an acceptable price to pay for a REAL EFFING pie. LISTEN you Yankee pie purveyors! A pie is not a slurry of filling with some poncey crust on top! A pie is a complex mishmash involving a base of pastry; a filling of meaty yumyum and then a cheeky Mary Poppins Dick van Dyke titfer of more yummy pastry! Thats it. You dont get to make a stew of meat bits and then throw on a cheeky beret of puff pastry! Uh noh. Real pie involves encapsulation in pastry - i.e. a freaking pie! And thats the first time I ever expressed my pie needs so clearly.
