Last week I happened to take part in a show on elections in hello fm.I stressed on the need to analyse the election manifesto of parties to understand their position on gender and other developmental issues.I mentioned about the very poor representation of women candidates in this elections in TN .Only CPM is the exception this time.Two out of nine candidates are women.That needs a special mention ! DMKs manifesto mentions the word womens empowerment not welfare.But the tone of electoral campaigns is not anyway towards that.ADMK s manifesto perceives women as mere beneficiaries of freebies.
