Last week, I took my daughters for a late lunch to the newly-opened New York Coffee, and we were rather bummed by the less-than-spectacular experience. It started with grease stains on the table and chipped plates, followed by forever taken to serve the order (even though it was way past the rush hour), and finally topped with a burnt chicken entrée. To be fair, most of our complaints were handled in a dignified manner: they cleaned the table, changed the plates, and replaced the burnt entrée... But the delay in serving the food is something they seriously need to take care of. If such was their service at 3:30 pm, I wonder how long they take during peak lunch hours! The restaurant is pleasantly spacious and well laid out. The menu is highly inspired by their Irish neighbours offerings. Butlers should feel really flattered! The food however has quite a bit of room for improvement. We ordered Mozzarella Sticks, Crispy Chicken Salad, Grilled Chicken Tarragon, Grilled Chicken Pesto Panini and finally Chocolate Lava Rock. The must-have-again items are Mozzarella sticks and the dessert.. The rest were not that much of a success story! The salad was ok. The Paninis size was unimpressive. And Chicken Tarragon was burnt fillets generously doused with a bland tarragon sauce accompanied with mashed potatoe, unseasoned spinach and other steamed vegetables. The entrée was sent back and fresh fillets were served but it was on the whole still a very bland dish. The place is new but theyre not offering anything new on their menu! I can understand the teething issues in service and am ready to give them a few months to get their act together. But I cant excuse their shortcomings in the quality and taste of the food theyre offering! These are done-to-death entrées which they should be able get right from Day 1. I would still like to try the place for breakfast because the place itself is pleasant! But before that, Id like to read some good reviews!
