Last week, U.S. Senator Robert P. Casey, Jr. (D-PA) hosted a press conference at CHOP to share news about the Emergency Medical Services for Children Reauthorization Act of 2014. During the press conference, Senator Casey joined CHOP CEO Dr. Steven Altschuler, Dr. James Callahan, emergency medicine specialist, and Dr. Philip Johnson, chief scientific officer to speak about the impact the soon-to-be signed legislation will have on children in Philadelphia and throughout the U.S. They highlighted how the program has benefited Philadelphia children to date, by developing guidelines for CT scans for children following head injuries and screening for childhood depression, among other important advancements.
