Last week, over 80,000 chum eggs were transplanted in to a Chemainus River side channel as a part of the Aboriginal Fisheries Strategy fish enhancement program. The eyed chum eggs were moved from the Nanaimo Fish Hatchery and brought to the side channel at Halalt in order for them to imprint on the Chemainus River. The Nations that were a part of this specific fish eggs transplant were Stzuminus, Halalt, Penelakut and Lyackson. Chad Ormond(biologist) and Jordan Maher, Executive Director of Quk-lhanumutsun Aquatic Resources Society were also in attendance.
