Last week, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights started a judicial audit of the Honduran state in Asuncion, the capital of Paraguay, after a request by the Guarifuna people, who claimed it had violated their land. During the audit, the Garifuna representative noted that their conditions have worsened since the 2009 coup detat, as the state is increasingly privatizing resources and investing in projects for mega-tourism and agro-industry; seriously threatening the survival of their culture.
