Last year I posted the ten movies I was most excited about seeing in 2013, and looking back, I predicted things pretty well - several wound up on my top ten list for the year, and only one turned out to be a full-on stinker (Star Trek: Into Darkness). So with that record of success in mind, here are the ten movies Im most looking forward to in 2014, so all of you can start looking forward to them as well (although I feel considerably less confident about this batch). 1. Under the Skin (Jonathan Glazer) Because. . . have you seen the trailer? Seriously. 2. Oculus (Mike Flanagan) Because. . . Flanagans Absentia was amazing. Plus festival word of mouth. 3. Godzilla (Gareth Edwards) Because. . . its Godzilla. And I loved Monsters. 4. Interstellar (Christopher Nolan) Because. . . its a Nolan film thats not about Batman. 5. Transformers: Age of Extinction (Michael Bay) Because. . . Shut up. 6. Guardians of the Galaxy (James Gunn) Because. . . James Gunn finally has a budget, and its about time. 7. Snowpiercer (Bong Joon-Ho) Because. . . No particular reason. Just have a good feeling. 8. White Bird in a Blizzard (Gregg Araki) Because. . . reviews suggest strong similarities to Lynch, especially TP. 9. The Grand Budapest Hotel (Wes Anderson) Because. . . Hey, a new Wes Anderson movie! 10. How to Catch a Monster (Ryan Gosling) Because. . . a mysterious fantasy neo-noir starring Matt Smith and Christina Hendricks? Might have ranked higher if I could find any more info on it. And as an honorable mention, Noah (Darren Aronofsky). Ive often wondered what it would take for a new Aronofsky movie not to make my list. Apparently, the answer is for it to be a biblical epic starring Russell Crowe.
