Last year September, I had the unforgettable experience of hunting - TopicsExpress

Last year September, I had the unforgettable experience of hunting elk in Wyoming. Up until then, I had never seen an elk in real life so I did not know what to expect. The mountains were seemingly endless and the bugle of the elk through the fall forest was something words cannot describe. It was mostly a learning experience of new sights, sounds, and adventure. An opportunity I hope to relive again and again for as long as I can walk this earth. The video is fairly long as I just threw together what we managed to capture. I had no idea what to expect and self-filming this proved a different challenge. Perhaps, I can do a better job on a second try. For many hunters in my home State of Hawaii, elk hunting is something I only saw waking up early to watch outdoor programming on TV. I can tell you my experience was not like TV. It was better. To have a big bull elk scream a bugle in your face mere arrow lengths away is INSANE! I now know what our fellow hunters on the mainland are so in love with. TV cannot do it justice. Yes, I hunted with my recurve. Were there chances to shoot a big bull if I had something with a bit more range? Sure. Would notching my tag have made my hunt any better? No. With personal certainty, I can say to have hunted here, in a place like this, is enough. To think just a century ago, elk would have been an endangered species, if such a thing existed back then, and today they are now doing far better. Thanks to sportsmen that have come long before me, paving a path of wildlife conservation in these parts, I and anyone else, can experience these wild places and wildlife. That is gift enough and no notched tag, for me, will ever compare.
