Last year we were privileged to meet the Bernard family. The Bernard girls, Shaye, Liv and Reece made loam bracelets to help Arf-Aruba in 2013. They were back again this year. They helped not only Arf-Aruba, but the children in Uganda. While in Aruba, Irma and her family graciously took us to her home where they are fostering Mirocolo and her new born pups. Thank you to Shaye, Liv, Reece and especially to their parents, Cynthia and Scott! Please take time to read their story. They are amazing! Some people have asked my sisters and I why we choose to support Arubas animals when there are charities closer to home. Although its true, my family is blessed to live in an area where we dont witness poverty or orphaned animals by the hundreds. Seeing these animals year after year suffer before our very own eyes is what inspired us to make a change. It doesnt matter where we focus our compassion, its the fact that we are making a difference in a world that we share with others. For the second year in a row, my sisters and I are very excited to contribute our fundraising efforts to ARF, Arubas Animal Relief Foundation. Thanks to the generosity of our family, teachers and friends, we were able to reach far beyond our goal this year by raising $618. This donation goes along way as it practically doubles in Aruban currency, plus the veterinarian care is a fraction of what it cost in the US. ARF uses the money to rescue, spay, neuter, offer food and shelter to helpless animals. Thanks to our Aunt Randis inspiration, we decided to hand make paper bead jewelry to sell. However after researching it, my oldest sister Shaye found out that if we were to hand craft the beads it would in fact take food directly out of the mouths of children in Uganda. As it turns out, paper bead making is their livelihood. So my mom contacted the organization who assists the women of Uganda and we were able to purchase the beads directly. We then sold them at school, at my moms office and at our local supermarket, Fort Salonga IGA. 100% of our profit went directly towards ARF. In the end we helped out two organizations. When you wear our jewelry, I hope you think of how meaningful each and every bead is. Its journey has provided so much for so many.
