Late Oct. 77 F & partly sunny. Retired and ambulatory. Just the right conditions for hitting the woods. Namely, Bender Memorial Forest, an ACRES Land Trust property on River Road west of Albion, IN. We enter through a fine tunnel of pawpaw trees. This is a well preserved, old forest, with 4 diam. grape vines reaching to the top of tall oaks. Four or five species of oak, beech, maple, tulip poplar, and a variety of other tree species populate the high quality woods. Hepatica leaves,dolls eyes fruits, maidenhair ferns, & pinkish maple-leaved viburnum shrubs stand out against the fallen leaves. A wonderful walk.
