Lately, I keep seeing people parroting online the ridiculous argument that veganism is a 1st world phenomenon, presumably from their smartphone or laptop, as theyre waiting for Dominos® pizza to arrive (much of which will end up in the trash), before heading out to pick up the latest X-box® game and a dumpster bag full of Slim Jims®. In some ways I still agree. I think veganism has become easier over time in most of America for example, a lot easier than in some places (a notion that always causes an uproar here.) However, guess what else are 1st world phenomena - well-funded hospitals, laws to protect workers, access to clean water, food, high speed internet, education... Now, Anthony Bourdain is a man who wouldnt know anything about that. Heres an article on Bourdain (renowned vegan hater) from a few years ago when he was championing this non-issue before it was cool. Again some of the points tend to cause an uproar here but the bulk of it you may find agreeable.
