Lately Ive done a lot of channel surfing at night , just to see if any of the latest crop of late night hosts can hold a candle to my personal fav , Letterman. Since announcing his retirement Ive been feeling Ill probably be going to sleep a lot earlier once he leaves depending on who the network chooses as his replacement. (please not Chelsea Handler). I certainly wont be gravitating towards the likes of Kimmel - Fallon or (somebody stop him) Seth Meyers ,all of whom possess the charisma of a fence post. Not that I couldnt use the extra sleep but I always appreciated the goofy countenence and good natured kidding of Dave as the perfect medium to curl up and drift off to. Not sure if he ever perspired, even if he was interviewing super stars or powerful politicos he always seemed unflappable, unlike the afore mentioned bunch , who are constantly either unprepared or unable to conduct an interview without making it painfully obvious it was all rehearsed. Then theres Paul Schaffer, who like his nerdy style or not, assembled a great band and brought in some of the best in the business , both as guests and many times just to sit in for the night While the others were tryin to buy cool Dave had Paul.(oh. By the way Roots) no mo street cred. for you! Anyway, Its not like Ill lose any sleep over it but Ill miss Dave a little.
