Lately Ive had a few clients who have taken time out of their career to look after a sick/elderly family member and theyre not sure what to do about the gap in their employment history. I say, dont leave it out, or try to camouflage it - HR professionals are human beings too & life is life. Its definitely a noble reason to have taken time out of your career to care for someone else, so include it in your career summary, but dont give too much information away either - keep it professional A simple explanation and inclusion in your resume is best: Leave of Absence 6/2012 - 9/2013 Full-time caregiver during family members illness During my career break in 2012-2013, I was caring for a close family member during a serious illness.
