***Latour dominates in the circle as the Rosepine Lady Eagles (District 3-2A, 3-2)play long-ball to defeat Avoyelles Lady Mustangs (District 3-3A, 5-2) in a 4-2 win!*** The Rosepine Lady Eagles found themselves playing from behind early as Avoyelles got on the board first. A leadoff walk for #6 in the top of the 1st inning would turn into an early run for the Mustangs. The Lady Eagles struggled to get base runners and was looking for a spark when 8th grader Haylee Brinlee provided just that. Brinlee belted a solo homerun to center field to tie the game at one in the bottom of the 5th inning. After the first inning, Morghan Latour was lights out until the 6th inning. #16 for the Mustangs got on base with an infield pop-up single. She would later score the go ahead run for the Mustangs on a line drive single into left field by #24. Latour would end the Mustang threat in the 6th by striking out #12. Down by one run in the bottom of the 6th, the Lady Eagles decided to put on a hitting clinic. Morghan Latour led off the 6th with a solo homerun shot over the centerfield fence, tying the score at 2-2. The very next batter, fellow freshman Lauryn McMahon, would give the Lady Eagles the lead by blasting a solo homerun to right-centerfield. Tabatha Pierce followed up with a single into leftfield but would soon be erased when Mustang pitcher got Dani Peavy to hit into a double play. With 2 outs in the bottom of the 6th inning, Kourtney McKee added to the hit total by hitting a line drive double into the right center gap. Two pitches later McKee would score on a shot by Desiree Behrens off the left-center wall giving the Lady Eagles the lead and final score of 4-2. Latour went the distance and got the win for Rosepine, recording 16 strikeouts, 1 walk, and giving up 2 runs on 4 hits. The Lady Eagles totaled 8 hits in the game including homeruns by Latour, McMahon, & Brinlee as well as a standup double by McKee. With the win, Rosepine improves to 3-2 on the season and will be back in action Saturday afternoon at 2pm at Cabrini Softball Complex in Alexandria.
