Laughter and squeals - The sound of wet feet hitting the cold concrete as teens rushed from pool to hot tub, hot tub to pool. The smell of campfire filled the air, the sky was black as the moon made only an occasional appearance from behind the rain filled clouds. Fall leaves crackled as the wind blew softly through the branches. The air was brisk and the chill in the air made it clear that fall was upon us. Hidden behind a beautiful grouping of trees the sound of giggling filled the night. With a sweet little baby perched on my hip, I made my way toward the laughter and smell of burning wood. It was there that it hit me. Fifteen plus chairs surrounded a homemade fire pit. Long sticks with fluffy white marshmallows hung above the crackling fire. Laughter was permeating throughout the smoke filled sky. It was in that moment that I realized that nothing, not one material possession, not a single one, mattered if we couldnt share it with others. If we work toward success, buy the latest and greatest, go on lavish trips and keep what is ours just for us... it all becomes a meaningless. This... just this... is why God allows us the freedom to buy lavish things and prosper financially. This is why He trusts us with so much. He gives freely so that we too will give freely of what never truly belongs to us in the first place. As I stood there listening to those gathered around the fire pit play a silly game of telephone; I realized there is nothing worth having, no position worth attaining and no salary worth receiving if it asks us to give up our ability to effectively love others. This house isnt ours, that pool and spa were meant for a much better, a far bigger purpose then we could ever dream. We are given much in order to return it all to the use of those God places in our life. IT ALL BELONGS TO GOD! Everything we have... Every hour we work... Every dollar that passes through our fingers. Its all His. We are ALL entrusted with so much. He places it in our care for a brief time and like the changing of the autumn leaves, in an instant it can all be gone. Our friends, our family, our marriages... Those we meet on the street and those weve known for decades... they are an inheritance that we must invest in. Using everything we have and offering all that we are - can and will honor God if we hand it over to Him and ask Him to use it all. Lord, we place all that we have back into your hands. We commit our jobs, our transportation, and our excess to your purposes. Help every person who reads this and prays this prayer be known as the most generous people on the planet. May we be generous with our time, generous with our position and generous with our love for others. May all that we have and all that we are be used to refresh others.
