Laundry. I learn everything the hard way. Everything single - TopicsExpress

Laundry. I learn everything the hard way. Everything single thing. But I wouldnt have it any other way. When robbie and I first got married we had been together for five years. I had planned out how perfect our lives were going to be, how perfect I was going to be. Perfect. Perfect. Perfect. But then.... Laundry. I had been doing my own laundry for several years now and I still havent figured out how married laundry is any different from solo laundry. It just is. Trust me. Around Christmas time Robbie hunts all of the time. His clothes get disgusting. His clothes THAT I HAD WASHED were smelling like rotten animals. He wore mostly dry fit type clothing which apparently holds onto odor like a bat out of hell. He asked me if his clothes stank and I would say, YES! You smell disgusting. My clothes on the other hand didnt smell. (Still a mystery) I was convinced it was just his body odor from hunting. Then his other clothes started smelling. We called two technicians to figure out why our washer and dryer was not cleaning his clothes. I was convinced it was the washer and dryer. It just had to be! After the first person said that both were running perfectly I decided that a dead animal had crawled up in the vent of both machines and there was no fixing the problem. We bought a brand new washer and dryer. A very expensive fancy one that basically does all the work for you. So when the clothes still stunk robbie sat me down and told me that he didnt think leaving the towels in the washer for three days was helping our problem. In fact, it was our problem. Turns out towels start to mildew in the washer when you leave them in there... I know, right!? Who woulda thunk?! It gets better. When you dry them it just bakes the mildew into the towels and they smell forever. And then to top it all off when you do this multiple times your entire washer starts to mildew. And then dry fit clothing basically begs for the odor to attach to it and it smells forever too. I was mortified. That was the day I realized that having good wife skills doesnt just birth itself into fruition the day you say I do! Not only did we waste a perfectly good washer and dryer given to us by my mother, I had ruined lots of wedding gift towels, and had a bruised ego. Thinking I could walk away from the crime scene unscathed every day I learned and am still learning that this whole knowing what your doing thing aint my thing. It was until three years later that I read a book and the author had done the almost identical same thing. If only I had known at the time I wasnt the only one wandering through life clueless. Life lesson : The more laundry I do, the less crazy nudists seem.
