Lauren Toppin, a junior biology major from Waxhaw, was recently selected as a University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Phillips Ambassador and will travel to Nagoya, Japan, to study at Nanzan University this fall. UNC-Chapel Hill’s Phillips Ambassadors scholarship program is designed to broaden awareness of Asia, both on and off campus, according to a news release. The program combines an award for study in Asia with an academic course challenging students to share their experiences upon their return to the U.S. Phillips Ambassadors are chosen twice each year and are selected based on their academic achievement, commitment to activities, service and leadership roles in the classroom and their community, according to the release.
