Laverdad.es Saturday 26th October 2013 Albatera The anti-landfill protest group call for a review of the Cespa-Ortiz contract The Deputy of the Environment, Javier Sendra, requested a truce and for appeasing the protests before announcing its position on the process. The neighbourhood protest group want to review every step that the Administration has approved in relation to the awarding of the Zonal Waste Plan contract with a magnifying glass. The protest group Albatera - No to the Landfill has asked the Regional Consortium of Waste to initiate a review of the administrative offices process in order to analyse the whole series of irregularities which in its view has dogged this issue that stretches nearly a decade and is an integral part to the judicial investigation of the Brugal case. The Deputy of the Environment, Javier Sendra, ordered the protest group to call a truce and to halt citizen action until the Consortiums position is announced. The provincial delegate, who assumed the legacy of the provincial ex deputy, Miguel Zaragoza a few months ago, does not have an in depth knowledge of this issue, which directly affects the Vega Baja, and it is necessary, however, to remember the impact on the other authorised landfills in the Alicante province as they continue to process the waste of the 27 municipalities south of Alicante until the Zone XVII plant is operational. The Deputy said he would study the Protest groups request to review all the steps taken in awarding the waste contract to Cespa-Ortiz. The Albatera protest groups legal spokesperson, Juan Serna, explained that this is an administrative act in which the Consortium should not act due to all the irregularities that have been uncovered. Serna quotes two breaches of the conditions as the installation is a transfer plant that is more than 30 minutes from towns like Torrevieja and Pilar de la Horadada and the omission of the economic criteria. In this sense, they argue that two 12 hour shifts in the transfer plant would involve greater cost than 3 normal shifts because overtime will have to be paid. The lawyer also referred to a police investigation of the industralists Angel Ferroll and Enrique Ortiz and other members of the contract tender team. The protest group believes that the Consortium has facilitated UTE Cespa-Ortiz. Nobody has taken into account that none of the four provisional waste sites have the necessary permits, said Juan Serna. The Albatera Protest Group met yesterday with the local community to inform them of a scheduled demonstration on the 11th November at the Generalitat Valencias headquarters. The demonstration will be attended by fellow protest groups from Cox, Granja de Rocamora, Vertivega, Villena, El Campello, Rebolledo and Llanera de Ranes.
