Law Enforcement Appreciation Day To All Police Officers from a Civilian, Walt Perryman 5/15/20 You Police Officers call us civilians or citizens and that is ok This civilian wrote this poem to thank all of you today. First, this is to honor all of you that made the ultimate sacrifice! Doing their job protecting us and they paid the highest price. Last time they went to work and walked out their door, I wonder, if they wondered, if they would be there anymore? And for every Officer lost in the line of duty you will also find, A family that loved them and the loved ones they left behind. When you hear, Shots fired, Officer Down on the police radio, Is the silence that follows the worst sound you will ever know? When you make traffic stops and you do that a lot, I wonder, for every one made how many of you were shot? Some of us civilians may take you for granted and raise a big fuss, They may not realize what you go through sometimes to protect us. That badge on your chest in some places is better known, ‘As a target’, because at times you go to work in a war zone. At first this was to thank the officers that made the ultimate sacrifice, But it’s also for the living and I pray you never have to pay their price.
