Laws Regarding Menstruation, False Menstruation & Lochia The age at which a Woman starts menstruating Usually, the youngest age at which it is possible for a female to start menstruating is nine years of age, and she may continue to menstruate until she is fifty. Alaah says: And those of your women as have passed the age of monthly coursed for them the prescribed period (Iddah), if you have any doubts (about their periods) is three months; and for those who have no courses (their prescribed periods is three months likewise). [Al-Talaq:4] Those who have passed the age of menstruation are those women who have reached the age of fifty, while those who have mo courses are those who are young and not up to the age of nine.
