Lay Up Treasures in Heaven: Matthew 6:19-21 & 24 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. What is your main focus in life? Is it to gain riches, retire early, and live life large? Or are you living for Jesus? Many people take vacations so they can lay on the beach, visit family or cruise the Caribbean, and there is nothing wrong with these things. But how about we travel every once in a while to the ghettos of the world to visit the poor, the orphaned, the widows, the hungry, the hurting? Like many people do, I visited my family during the holidays. But what was more important than that was my trip last November to serve Syrian refugees in the Middle East. Both of these things are important to do, but one outweighs the other. Only one life, ’twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last. - C.T. Studd
