Leaders who care I AM writing again to congratulate Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama for his superior leadership of, and caring for all the people of Fiji. As a retired teacher from Fiji and Canada, I am delighted with what the PM has done for childrens education. I am also very impressed with his governments efforts in making the sugar industry sustainable and self- supporting. CEO Abdul Khan also deserves great credit for his leadership. Fiji is fortunate to have leaders who care about their nation and serve the needs of the people, as all nations should, instead of becoming mired in destructive self-interest, petty jealousies, and xenophobia! Way to go, Fiji! Bula and namaskar! Nanda Sologar Alberta Canada. One vote MY ex-party leader Mahendra Chaudhry claims that the 2014 National Budget is a reckless and a vote-buying budget. Fijians are not stupid and if the people see that the allegations are true in the nine months of 2014 leading up to the general elections, then they will show their dissatisfaction through their one vote. But, if the Prime Minister and his team walk the talk and deliver what has been announced in the 2014 National Budget, then commonsense would dictate that it is pointless contesting the elections. Savenaca Vakaliwaliwa Nasinu. Free education FIJI is really progressing and developing. Free education from 2014 which really makes a big change in every individuals life. Now everyone has a chance to make our society, community and nation move forward. The opportunity is here, so make the most of now. In the previous years, it was very hard for the low income earners to meet the demand and needs of the children and were unable to contribute to their childs education. Finance was the major drawback of dropouts and child labour. We are very fortunate that we have such a wonderful government that is very supportive in education. The government has done its part, and now its the parents and children who have to make a difference: Dont leave any stones unturned. This promise of government will have a big impact on the nation as a whole. Vinaka government. Ravneel Vikash Ram Suva. Family planning WHILE I applaud the idea of free education for primary and secondary level, Im just wondering as to how the family planning will be managed. I can already sense the complaints of increased population. Kirti Patel Lautoka. Right track I THANK the Fiji Government for the allocation towards the education sector. Many families will benefit from this and I believe the Bainimarama government is on the right track to governing this nation. A big vinaka vakalevu from the families of Fiji! Brittany Meryl Verma Lautoka Peoples budget YOU may call it reckless, vote-buying, wealthy or election budget but really it is the peoples budget. This budget is for the futures of our children and the country. Well done Mr Prime Minister. Nardeo Mishra Suva Do your bit A GOOD and relevant budget that covers all stakeholders within the government. Now the onus is on the civil servants to pitch in and do their bit on what they have received. The more you get, it should be reflected effectively and efficiently in the service. Civil servants must provide to the public of Fiji and its visitors. Juki Fong Jakarta Indonesia. Education fees In the new budget education gets $541.5m, free primary and secondary education, which means no family will have to pay any tuition fees, textbook fees, building fees or any other fees usually charged by schools. The Class Eight students who enrolled at a certain school in Tavua for next year were charged $70. I wonder if this $70 will be refunded to the parents. A big vinaka vakalevu to Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama-led government for making the biggest allocation to the education sector. VICKY KUMAR Tavua. fijitimes/story.aspx?item=letters
