Leadership Has No Recipe. How you Handle Failures Will Define your Leadership NOT Your Followers. So much is being written about these days when it comes to LEADERSHIP that i often wonder how can you write about making someone into a leader ? Its not a scientific formula that you invented or acquired or were passed on and it worked for you and now you are giving it to others, Like some household items. And why does every one want to BECOME A LEADER ANYWAY.... The responsibilities that come with having people watch you all the time far outweighs the EGO SATISFACTION of being known. And Leaders are not MADE they are mostly ACCIDENTLY created with scenarios. Look at Napolean, Cleopatra, Alexandar The (NOT) So Great, Jinnah, Gandhi..none of them had a goal of becoming a leader when they were in their teenage years. So much emphasis is being put on CREATING LEADERS that the young minds get confused and end up become neither, A Leader Or Even a Good Human Being. Concentrate on becoming a person that you can say that you like yourself and if you like who you are, chances are others will like you as well. These days anybody who is running a company, and employs a few hundred people with a few million dollars in revenues is AUTOMATICALLY DECLARED A LEADER. How Silly ? Creating wealth is LEADERSHIP ? Inventing a product and SUCCESSFULLY SELLING IT is Leadership ? NO. Its good management and marketing skills. Years ago when i first joined my job as a Stockbroker, i was shunned by mostly all the other brokers who thought of me as a person ALIEN to their circle. I went to my manager and complained that nobody is friendly in this investment bank. Abe Bornstien, My manager said Ali IN YOUR LIFE There will be people who will HATE YOU...There will be people who will DOUBT YOU, There will be people who will not BELIEVE IN YOU and THEN there will BE YOU..Who will PROVE THEM WRONG with your success and Patience. That small pep talk changed my focus from looking outwardly to looking inwardly, within myself. Yes it was painful in the beginning to have been treated as a person WITH PLAGUE. But that was the best thing they could have done to me, they made me focus on my WEAKNESSES and GAVE ME TIME to TURN THEM INTO STRENGTHS. What are you contributing to society that you should be appreciated for it ? That is the first question that should come to your mind instead of how to become a leader. And all LEADERS are not GOOD PEOPLE. But ALL GOOD PEOPLE are Leaders in their own sense of the word. Everyday i see tens of articles on LinkedIn about leadership. As if its a course to be taught. Every other university in the world proudly ADVERTISES We Create Leaders Of Tomorrow... Its all crap. Dont fall for that. Keep your focus on becoming a good part of the society and your family and your friends. And that JUST MIGHT MAKE YOU A LEADER one day. You are a LEADER to your child anyway. Or to your younger ones. But by your CHARACTER and EXAMPLE not by fiery speeches and a BETTER POST at your office. Just because you manage a 100 people at your work DOES NOT make you a leader...it makes you a GOOD MANAGER of people. And LEADERS dont manage people. They make them SELF RELIANT. Make one person self reliant in your life with your money or your advice or your character and you are ALREADY A LEADER. Try to be loved rather than followed. Try to develop your own personality first than to concentrate on buying leadership books and reading articles on HOW TO BECOME A LEADER. There is no power in becoming a leader.. MASTERING OTHERS is NOT true power..TRUE POWER is MASTERING YOUR OWN SELF. If everybody was a leader who will be the follower ? If everybody was an ENTREPRENEUR then who would be part of the team that executes the IDEAS ? Stop believing in conventional wisdom that is BEING FORCED to you. Start questioning OLD IDEAS even though that they have been around for 100 years or so. LEAD YOURSELF into ENLIGHTENMENT FIRST and you JUST MIGHT BECOME A LEADER ONE DAY.
