Boezaart primed for American Qualifier Former chartered accountant Lean Boezaart is finally having the kind of season he long felt was possible and the 28-year-old will begin to enjoy the impressive pay-offs for his consistency in the United States this week. Boezaart is confident of his chances to gain a Sunshine Tour card in January following nine top 10 finishes on the IGT Tour and 14th place in the final Big Easy Tour. However, his first order of business is the First Stage Qualifier on the WEB.COM Tour in two weeks. The Cape Town golfer earned an R80 000 sponsorship from the IGT Tour to compete in the USA following his runner-up finish in the Race to the USA in July. A victor during the recent Race to the Asian Q-School, Boezaart will also line up with the other seven series winners in the Asian Tour’s First Stage Qualifier next year. On the eve of his departure to the United States, the GFG Academy player was full of the joys of life, but keeping his expectations realistic. “If this was a Hollywood blockbuster, I would come out of this season holding cards on the WEB.COM Tour, Asian Tour and Sunshine Tour, but this is real life, so let’s keep it real,” Boezaart said. “I’m absolutely thrilled to have won this trip to the United States. It will probably be the toughest test of my career, but the experience is going to incredible.” Boezaart will play the 72-hole First Stage Qualifier at the St John’s Golf and Country Club in St Augustine, Florida from 21-24 October. He will spend the next two weeks honing his game at the qualifying venue, some of the surrounding courses in the area and the IGTA Mini-Tour in Florida. “My uncle Andre is a professor of medicine at the University of Florida,” Boezaart said. “I’ll be staying with him in Gainsville, which is about an hour and a half from St Augustine. “He is also going to caddy for me during the qualifier, so we have booked us a bunch of rounds at St John’s and a few other courses in the area. I’ll play the IGTA Tour’s Southern Hills Plantation event next week to stay competitive. “I think that will be enough to acclimatise to the conditions and get my game ready for the qualifier, because that is going to be a massive mountain to climb.” The Cape Town golfer said that he is going into the qualifier with low expectations. “I’ve had some lofty expectations before and came down to earth with a bang,” he said. “Just a year ago, my game was in the doldrums and I considered throwing in the towel and going back to Deloitte & Touche. Then I did pretty well in the IGT Tour’s Race to Q-School and when I won the last tournament in the series at Glendower. “I knew I had to give it one more year and the guys at Deloitte & Touche kept up their sponsorship. Through this all I’ve learned that golf is a process.
