Learn about the BDS movement: BDS MOVEMENT: BIGOTED, DECEITFUL, AND SORDID (From Grandchildren of Holocaust Survivors - PLEASE share to raise awareness) A movement of racists and anti-Semites -- mostly from academia (including many college students) and the political left and including some individuals who were Jewish by birth -- known as Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) is working overtime to boycott the state of Israel economically. Recently they launched a tireless assault on the American pop artist Alicia Keys to convince her to follow Roger Waters of "Pink Floyd" and Stevie Wonder in their boycotts of performing in Israel. Other prominent supporters of the BDS movement include Desmond Tutu, Stephen Hawking, and Alice Walker. There is little doubt that the BDS movement is the 21st century equivalent to earlier anti-Jewish boycotts in history. The campaign was started in 2005 by 171 Arab non-governmental organizations, who cite United Nations resolutions in their assertion that Israel is "an apartheid state". Apartheid, of course, is a policy segregation that is far from any government policy in Israel, which is a parliamentary democracy with legislative power in the Knesset, and has universal voting rights for all citizens. There are also non-Jewish parties in the Knesset. Moreover, Israel is the home to the more than 750,000 Jews who have been displaced from Arab countries since 1948 (see facebook/photo.php?fbid=555027591186706). Israel is also the home of Jews making aliyah from places as diverse as South America, Africa, and eastern Asia. Indeed, Israel is a melting pot of people from all religious backgrounds and all racial and ethnic backgrounds. Celebrity opponents of the BDS movement include Madonna, Alicia Keys, Ashton Kutcher, Natalie Portman, and Rihanna. Next time you hear from the BDS movement, you may want to call them by their true identity: Bigoted, Deceitful, and Sordid.
